Slavery That is Real Today

Slavery was abolished in the nineteenth century here in the USA. The ripple effect from open crime of slavery that existed has never stopped “rippling.” There is an effect from every cause, a reaping of the seed that is sown, and this nation, though many feel that the loss of 600,000 plus individuals in the civil war paid the price for the sin, some still remained enslaved by bitterness and resentments from that dark time in history. They cannot be free from the anguish suffered by their ancestors at the hands of slave owners and slave traders, to which some would say, “why not forgive and forget?” We cannot identify, having never experienced the horrors of being ripped out of your home, and placed among strangers that regard you as one of their farm animals. This is hard to forget, harder to forgive, but with God all things are possible.

There is a slavery that disregards race, gender, heritage, or privilege. This slavery is not physical slavery, chains placed on our hands and feet.

This is a great article on slavery written by Keith from Think in Today. Slavery is not legal in to many places, but that does not stop it from happening either. There is another form of slavery as well, entered into willingly…do you know what it is?

  1. Very nice Greg, I’m going to try to go and check out this article. I do agree with you though that slavery does exist today. It was also very refreshing to see you argue against the whole “forgive and forget” argument.

I’ve always felt that those who say that really don’t understand some of the hard things that those who have been enslaved (even if it was years ago) go through. Yes we should forgive and forget but also I think it’s important that we remember how painful it is and that there are consequences to sin that sometimes last for decades.

    • Couldn’t agree more, Keith did a great job on this article. Forgiveness is important, and sometimes remembering is needed so as not to be taken in yet again by the same hurt. Christ forgives us, our sins are removed from us as far as the East is from the West. Yet at the same time He remembers them still. We know this as we will account for what was done in the body both good and bad.

      Blessings to you my friend
