Understanding Kingdom Prayer, part I

Pray(er): constant communion with God through Jesus

Declare:

  1. to make known or state clearly, especially in explicit or formal terms: to declare one’s position in a controversy.
  2. to announce officially; proclaim
  3. to state emphatically

Decree:

  1. a formal and authoritative order, especially one having the force of law: a presidential decree.
  2. Law; a judicial decision or order.
  3. Theology; one of the eternal purposes of God, by which events are foreordained.

I’ve prayed since I was six years old having just received Jesus as Savior and Lord. Unfortunately, I was praying all wrong! Well, maybe not all wrong, but primarily. If I had learned over time how not only to pray, but also to decree promises given to me by Jesus, my life would probably not have been as tumultuous as it was. Everything works together for good for those who love God, thankfully, but if I can teach someone biblically how to pray with maturity, what to ask in accordance to God’s will, and how to declare and praise according to the Word, it may save some folks some unnecessary hardship.

We must understand that there is a distinct difference between asking in prayer, and decreeing God’s promises with authority and through praise. Decreeing is not the same as praying. Praying, as I see it, is simply constant communion with God; it’s keeping an open line of communication with God at all times in all things. Praying can be asking, praising, weeping, etc. This is the “praying without ceasing” – unbroken communication with Jesus.

Declaring (decreeing) is strategically different. Both have to do with communication, but declaring is actually not talking to God but rather applying God’s authority given us through His Son into any situation; you’re talking to the situation on God’s authority. A kingdom ambassador does not check with the king when he goes to another country or kingdom on behalf of the king. He’s given the king’s authority to speak and act as if he were the king himself. He is as the king. We are as God in the sense that He instructs us to speak with the authority His Heavenly word into our earthly situations just as Moses was as God and Aaron was his prophet (Exodus 7:1).

Christ is in us and through us. When we speak with authority, it’s actually Christ speaking, not us. This being so, Jesus doesn’t have to ask God’s permission to utilize His kingship – Christ is God, we are as God in the Earth. We are not God in the sense of being our own god, or any such nonsense. It is a matter of, you are dead and Christ is now your life (if that is where you are in Christ). If it is so, you are not you, you are Christ – Christ is Himself through your mortal shell. He speaks through His obedient, submitted ambassadors. Christ, then, speaks through you as Himself. The demons recognize Christ in you.

Christ doesn’t have to pray to Himself to get permission. He just speaks. You just speak. You bind demons. You speak healing, life, abundance, etc. You do as Christ. This is not a prayer; it is a declaration of Christ in and through you. Praying the promises really isn’t praying (technically speaking, though calling it “prayer” isn’t totally incorrect); it is decreeing His completed promises over your situation until the promise manifests physically.
