Before the crucifixion of Jesus, Simon Peter said, “I am ready to go with Thee both into prison and to death” (Luke 22:33). And Jesus responded, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”(Luke 22:34).
Peter cursed and denied Jesus. Can you imagine anything worse? But God arched the rainbow of Romans 8:28 over what Peter did. Matthew 26:75 says that Peter went out and wept bitterly, but Jesus forgave him (see John 21).
Hebrews 12:11 says, “Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” Peter wept bitterly, but afterward it yielded the peaceable fruit of righteousness.
God means it when He promises that all things work together for our good—the sweet things, the sorrowful things, the simple things.
