Monday’s With Julia and CJ

While we studied 1 Corinthians 10 for last weeks post we discovered this chapter had a wealth of valuable information and doctrine. Including the history of the Istaelites Exodus. This week we found even wikipedia broke it down from a secular viewpoint. However even they captured the value of this teaching with one exception.

From Wikipedia:
1 Corinthians 10 is the tenth chapter of the First Epistle to the Corinthians in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It is authored by Paul the Apostle and Sosthenes in
Ephusus. In this chapter Paul writes about the Israelites’ Exodus journey and the Eucharist, and returns to the subject of food offered to idols. The argument concerning meats offered to idols is resumed in 1 Corinthians 10:14
The New King James Version organises this chapter as follows:

1 Corinthians 10:1-13 = Old Testament Examples
1 Corinthians 10:14-22 = Flee from Idolatry
1 Corinthians 10:13-33 = All to the Glory of God.

Paul explains that the Israelites were baptised under Moses and the cloud. He explains they followed the rock which was Christ. The importance of this is way understated in todays churches. Something else Paul explains is the downfall of the Israelites who strayed from God. Have we not learned anything from those before us?
We still stray far from God and idolatry is in our midst. Something else to ponder. Christ is portrayed as the rock, “for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”

Christ is our anchor, our rock, just as the Israelites drank life giving water from the rock under Moses, we drink life giving water from our rock Christ.

Paul goes on to give a warning:
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.
11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us,on whom the culmination of the ages has come.

Ezekiel’s great commission is as the message of the Christian today, which is to go unto a rebellious people that do not want to know Gods wisdom but only their own. History does repeat itself and the hearts of some today have grown cold to the will of the Lord, as they rebel against His righteous ways(Ezekiel 2).
Many generations have come and gone yet as we look around today has Gods wisdom and counsel remained? Has man branched off in his own wisdom with numerous abortions by the thousands with sex trafficking and the sanctity of marriage thrown out the window, and there is no moral compass left! We have to wonder just how far has man really evolved?
