SAY WHAT?—THE THIN PLACES? (Part Two)

Today we are going to look at some examples from the Bible of people who encountered thin places. Please take a moment to read Part One from last week if you have not already done so because today’s blog will be much more meaningful.

In Exodus 3:1-7 Moses had an amazing occurrence involving a bush that was on fire but did not burn. And at that bush he had a startling conversation with God that not only totally changed his entire life but also the lives of hundreds of Israelites as he was called to lead them out of Egypt.

In Matthew 17:1-8 Peter, James, and John witnessed a magnificent incident commonly known as the Transfiguration. This was a powerful presentation where Jesus was joined by Moses and Elijah. The disciples not only saw the three figures standing together but heard the voice of God confirming the divinity and authority of Christ.

In Acts 9:1-9 Paul (then still known as Saul) was on his way to Damascus to continue his crusade of destroying Christians. But Jesus ushered him into a thin place right in the middle of the road. I guess we just never know when that thin place will appear. In an inspired incident Paul spoke with Jesus which led to his conversion and subsequent call into a powerful ministry.

Both Moses and Paul were directed into an unanticipated life of awesome service while in a thin place. But one thing all these examples share in common is that all the participants took time to totally absorb and involve themselves in that moment—they all made space for a life transitioning experience.

Oh my precious sister—my precious brother revel in God’s Presence this week. Pray that you will always be at the ready to recognize and linger in the thin places because they can come at the most unexpected moments. One of the best ways to be prepared is by following the Master’s footsteps verbatim—getting out of our path and walking in His.

I have a dear friend who recently was privileged to actually, literally walk where Jesus had walked. But even if we do not have that amazing opportunity we can still travel with the Lord on a personal excursion, feeling His Presence—His power—His Spirit in an authentic and pervasive way.

I leave you today with a portion of a hymn written by Geoffey O’Hara entitled ,”I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked”.

I walked today where Jesus walked.

In days of long ago.

I wandered down each path He knew,

With reverent step and slow.

Those little lanes, they have not changed,

A sweet peace fills the air.

I walked today where Jesus walked,

And felt His presence there.

I walked today where Jesus walked,

And felt Him close to me.
