I and many others still choose to believe – WE believe, and NOTHING or NO ONE is going to change that.
By Greg Holt
I am literally amazed at the fact that so many are deceived, this is not a surprise, but still amazing. Whether they be unbelievers or so-called believers has little bearing.
23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24 saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. Mark 1:23-24
And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. Mark 3:11
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. James 2:19
Even the demons and unclean spirits knew who Jesus was, and believed in Him – regardless of the fact they did not like Him or follow Him! They STILL knew/know that Jesus is real and not to be doubted. People on the other hand doubt, or flat out refuse to believe all the time.
Then there are the people in the Church, those who say they believe but do NOT. This lot is growing by leaps and bounds every day. How often do we hear that some preacher, or some “Christian” rock star no longer believes in God? There is even an organization for these once upon a time pastors and clergy etc. turned unbelievers – The Clergy Project. The Great Falling Away (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) is not a future event that happens before the return of Jesus, rather this is an event that IS happening NOW.
In the above story on the pastor, a church staff member was beating his or her spouse. The second event was a mother-to-be believed that her baby; having a fatal condition, would survive. Tragically the baby died, and the mother blamed herself. Now these are I grant you terrible things – but no reason to disbelieve God. Before any of you rush to make snide comments about this, I KNOW from where I speak. My son died, at the age of 24 – I still believe. Why didn’t God save this woman’s baby? Or my son? I don’t have that answer, but I choose to believe.
I and many others still choose to believe, despite circumstance, despite deep pain, despite mockery, despite deep and painful disappointments. WE believe, and NOTHING or NO ONE is going to change that.
Then there are the so-called believers, so-called believers because they really do NOT believe in God despite what they say. You absolutely cannot discount parts of the Bible as fiction, and truly believe in God – not possible. You cannot be ok with LGBT people being ministers and pastors and other Church leaders, and really be a believer – can’t happen. Don’t mistake what I am saying here, LGBT people can participate in Church services, but they cannot be leaders or hold office. One cannot teach, and/or believe the prosperity gospel, and be a real believer in Christ – not a chance. One cannot sit in Church on Sunday, and then live exactly like the rest of the world does during the week and lay claim to a true belief in God. By this I do not mean making mistakes here and there, or even struggling with a particular sin. I mean; going to the bar after work and getting smashed, swearing like a sailor, having an unloving even nasty disposition towards others etc.
A word here on the prosperity gospel: God DOES want us to give, our time, our money etc. and God WILL bless us for doing so, guaranteed. Here’s the catch – the blessing God chooses to bestow on us might very well have nothing to do with finances at all. God may choose to bless us at a later time (maybe much later) in whatever way He chooses to do so. Or, God may just choose to bless us when we join Him in His Kingdom and NOT here on earth at all, or in a limited fashion – that’s His choice, NOT ours. Then there is the fact that those who do for others, expecting to gain from their actions, have completely missed the point of giving and helping others – and likely have their reward already for doing so, and it has NOTHING to do with God.
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? Matthew 8:29
In the above verse, two men “possessed with devils” came near to Jesus. These devils knew exactly who Jesus was and said so. They also knew exactly what was going to ultimately happen to them, notice the words about torment us – as in the Lake of Fire. Yet they still believe(d) in Jesus Christ as God.
13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:13-16
This particular evil spirit addressed the men who were trying to get rid of it. This spirit of evil KNEW exactly who Jesus was, and even the Apostle Paul!
As the article title says, even the demons and unclean (evil) spirits know better than many people do.
