Thought for Today 07/15/2021: Essential for Your Life – Bible Reading

Do you spend time in the Bible? If not why not?

By Greg Holt

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  Psalm 119:105

(ICB)  It is said concerning the Bible:

Basic
Instructions
Before
Leaving
Earth

How true.  The Bible is the definitive and complete roadmap for us to follow.

God’s Word tells a story, the story of God trying to reach a stubborn and stiff necked people – not just the Israelites, ALL people everywhere.  God has been trying (trying because we are human and stubborn) since He created us to teach us, to have fellowship with us, and maybe most important of all, to get us to listen.

The Bible contains all we need to know to live.  It tells us how to act – how to treat others, how to have a successful marriage, good friendships, how to worship, how to pray, and how to do everything else in between.

Our Bibles tell us what Jesus did and said, what His expectations are for us – how to protect ourselves spiritually, what to stay away from as these things will harm us, and of course the things we should be regularly doing.

Anything and everything we need guidance on – it’s in there.

So my questions is:

Why do so many believers spend so little time in the Bible?  How is it that the most important book in the world is not widely read by those who call themselves followers, believers, whatever?

How is it that a great majority of those who claim to be believers are basically Bible illiterate?  These people do not truly know what is in the Bible, and even less do they understand it.  Which means that they are easy prey for those seeking to use the Word for their profit.  Or for those seeking to falsify and corrupt what the Bible teaches into something more “easy to swallow,” like itching ears theology.

There are many things we can change in our lives – but one of the things that is most important to change is making a plan to read your Bible, EVERY day, NO excuses.  It doesn’t matter how much you read, what matters is that you understand what you read, and that you apply it in your life.

The Bible is God’s love letter to us, as well as His instructions for us.

Shouldn’t we be reading it?

Luke 21:36 "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."
