Let us not forget that Jesus did this by choice, no one killed Jesus, He allowed Himself to die for us
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.” Acts 17:28
One day God decided to create man. On another day, man decided to disobey God and do exactly what man (and woman) was told not to do. After this, man sinned oh so much more. Every form of sin and wickedness you can imagine was done – and this was back in the “old days,” the REALLY old days, like before Jesus (before His earthly presence) old days.
There was homosexuality, murder, lying, deception, theft, divorce, lust, beatings, extreme selfishness, child abuse, arson – you name it, man did it, same as today.
“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9
Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery after thinking about killing him. Moses murdered a man. Jezebel was like a one woman crime syndicate. Jacob was a liar and a master manipulator. Cain in a jealous rage killed his brother Abel.
During the time that Jesus was on earth, two of his disciples, James and John, asked Jesus about calling fire down from Heaven to destroy people who had offended them! This is incredibly the same John known as the “disciple of love.”
“And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?” Luke 9:54
Suffice it to say that the Lord looked down from Heaven, and then also while walking the very earth Himself – and looked at the incredible evil that man is capable of.
Just think about how things are today – the willful murder of so many defenseless babies, the horrible abuse of children to satisfy the incredibly dark and evil fantasies of perverted men, the murders done with no thought for the destruction of a human life. The thefts and deliberate ruin of others to further the ambitions of others, the extreme cruelty and hatred displayed on social media and in the schools that drive some to suicide. The ruin of entire nations to satisfy the whims of the few in power.
Enter the supposed vindictive and cruel God who helps no one but Himself and maybe a few select individuals. In the first place, if God wanted to be vindictive, He would have every right to do so. In the second place, it was and is not any human that has suffered the most – it is the Son of God who has suffered the most out of all people.
Thirdly, just go back and check into how many screwed up and nasty individuals the Lord redeemed including one of the most harsh and evil people ever to have lived – King Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar was a brutal, nasty, mean, and downright evil man God used to punish Israel. After God punished the king, he praised and honored God. No this does not prove Nebuchadnezzar became a believer, but that is the way it seems to me, and at the very least he had a deep respect for God and honored Him.
After witnessing all of the wanton evil of man, this supposedly vindictive and uncaring God (according to some) was born as a human baby. This baby of course grew into a man, and ultimately died a horrible and painful death on the cross in order to offer redemption to all people – even to those who are evil, like Hitler among others.
Let us not forget that Jesus did this by choice, no one killed Jesus, He allowed Himself to die for OUR benefit, to redeem us, to give a us a fresh start, a new beginning. The slate is wiped clean, we are given a place with Jesus forever, our sins are forgotten and the Lord adopts us as His. Furthermore, He helps us if we but ask and devote ourselves to Him.
How many of us would do all of this for people who deeply wronged us and hurt us? Few if any at all.
Let there be therefore no nonsense that God is a vindictive and angry God out for vengeance.
If you have not yet given your life to Christ, I implore you to do so today.
