Judges 21;25; Proverbs 14:34; Isaiah 5:20-23,Proverbs 14:34; Romans 1:20-32,3:10-18
This is a sermon I preached some years ago and recently reviewed it for any rewrites, revisions, or updates. Considering all of the anger, rage, chaos, and moral rot we see in this country, I saw no need to change what the Lord had impressed upon me. Even now it still cries out to anyone having ears to hear. Through research, reading, and careful study of the worldviews that have shaped and influenced us as a nation, two specific realms of thought have prevailed and are now at war with one another. One worldview comes from the Judeo-Christian perspective, and the other from secular humanism, or progressivism.
Citizens and statemen in times drew the nation’s attention to our its origins being founded upon the Word of God and the principles of Christianity. This began with the first settlers and the establishment of a form of government known as the Mayflower Compact of 1629. The pilgrims who wrote it declared that this new country would be founded upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Bible for the governance of future generations. The nation was to operate along the lines of Judeo-Christian philosophy, or the study and application of the attributes of God.
The other worldview, Humanism, was founded on the belief that we are the sum and measure of all things. We established the nation upon the works of political philosophers and secular principles that tended to avoid any form of biblical standard and to rely instead upon reason, logic, science, and encourage skepticism towards anything of a supernatural explanation. This school of thought has reaped a harvest of national tares and has been not an example of human superiority but has instead incurred wrath and judgment from Almighty God, who we have told to leave us alone. He has complied, leaving us to drown in the immoral cesspool we have dug for ourselves.
The deliberate abandonment of godly standards and the adoption of what has become a foundation of sand has resulted in the formation of a new philosophical guide that produces “law and order” that protects the guilty, glorifies anarchy, and maligns the innocent. Law enforcement and any type of civil behavior have become objects of scorn in cities across the country. The present American philosophy has gleefully encouraged us to embrace ourselves and abandon the person and work of Jesus Christ, redefining “truth” as whatever seems right to the individual. It has redefined the value of life as the “right” to kill an unborn child in the womb as nothing more than a “choice” and isolate the elderly in “homes” that are convenient places for the children and relatives to abandon their responsibilities towards those who had cared for them in the past. The humanist worldview has replaced education with indoctrination, molding young minds to hate and demean anyone and anything who would dare to disagree with them, be they peer or parent.
The humanism that makes up the American philosophy today turned the meaning of “love” and “family” into a quagmire of self-defined groups, with the objective of ridding the nation of the traditional structure of a man and woman in the bonds of matrimony, and to redefine the concept of “love” to go so far as to advocate the wretchedness of pedophilia. None of this has a shred of decency or merit, and because we have thrown God out of the national fabric, we now reap a harvest of dung and mud. I am personally convinced that the riots we have witnessed, fueled by the inept and local and state officials, the fires, vandalism, and destruction of entire city blocks, along with the total breakdown of national order are the results of the evil and malevolent ideas proposed by the late Saul Alinsky and his manifesto that he dedicated to “the first rebel, Lucifer,” known by the title “Rules for Radicals.” What did Alinsky write under the influence of Satan that resulted in this case of national insanity?
It starts with questioning the existing authorities and slandering anyone who disagrees with you. The radical then plants idealistic ideas in the minds of the gullible and impressionable with the promise of “free college,” “universal income,” wealth redistribution,” “equality,” and “social justice.” Promote rejection and disrespect for all religious convictions and beliefs. Tear down all houses of worship and limit all religious activities. Protest the established government with the goal of overthrowing it and the existing social structure, forming a statist system with full control over production of goods and services. We are seeing this happen in America through the growing acceptance of socialist thought and the idea that Marxist dogma is the proper means of governing all nations.
Leftist and humanist worldviews in America today have made the message of redemption and salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ into an object of slander, blasphemy, ridicule, and hatred. The irony is that Jesus told His followers that this would be rampant in the days before His return (Luke 21:12-19) and was reaffirmed by the apostle Paul in his final letter (2 Timothy 3:4-5). Atheists and skeptics openly mock Jesus, either denying His existence or deny what the Scriptures have presented about Him or deny the authority and divine inspiration of the Bible altogether. If their claims are true, then why do they spend any time even discussing or debating it? (Romans 3:10-18; Psalm 14:1, 53:1).
Our godless American philosophy has redefined truth into whatever one wishes it to be in order to sooth egos and outlooks on life. We now blissfully say to one another that what is true to you may not be true for me or declare that there is no absolute truth. This ridiculous thinking has crept into the modern church, with a large number of self-professed “evangelicals” denying doctrines such as the inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Jesus, or that He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6, 20:30-31; Acts 4:12). There is a slew of “pastors” who do not believe the Bible or God Himself, putting on a show of false piety instead. If truth does not exist as these empty-headed “intellectuals” say, then anything goes, and nothing is wrong (Judges 21:25).
We have devalued life, rendering the unborn, children, the elderly, and infirm as insignificant, unnecessary, a burden on society, or as Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood referred to them, nothing but “human weeds.” Last year (2022) there were an estimated 70,000,000 abortions performed worldwide, which does not include the already 60,000,000 we murdered since implementing the horrendous Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. State legislators and wicked governors have signed legislation making it legal to kill babies outside the womb and sell their body parts to the highest bidder. This barbarity has been documented on surveillance videos over the years. Volumes could be presented on the sex trafficking of minors, child slavery, occult sacrifices, abuse, neglect, and molestation alone. (Note: Since this sermon was written, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.)
By ignoring, mocking, ridiculing, and turning our backs on God in this nation, we have reaped a bitter harvest and infested crop of addicts, abuse victims, HIV patients, hatred that borders on the demonic for each other, the rise of a totalitarian government, apathy and lack of concern for one another, ignorance, atheism, deceit, murder, rape, robbery and a slew of perverse and deviant laws, actions, and lifestyles. Well, America, I hope your decision to walk away from God was worth it. Even the Prodigal Son would not dare venture into the repugnant pigsty that this nation has become that is now content to wallow in its stench and filth.
This raises a question concerning our future as it applies to the subject of Bible prophecy. Is there a role for America as some prophecy teachers and writers would like to claim? I would have to say, “NO.” I do not see it. Why should God even give us a glance when we’ve slid into the pit of debauchery? We were blessed as a nation with noble leaders, abundant resources, the privilege of sending missionaries around the world and preachers here declaring the truth of the Scriptures and the good news of the Gospel. We were the envy of the world with our freedoms and opportunities to anyone who worked hard and had a vision of bettering their lives. Somewhere along the way we dropped the ball by allowing the infestation of liberal and secular thinking and teaching to come into our courts of law, our schools, our leaders, and our churches that ended up corroding the minds and hearts of future citizens to embrace a godless system and the encroachment of liberal thinking that has now bloomed into a national form of forced compliance. We have gone from the absolute truth of God’s Word to being taught that we turn into fertilizer for plants and food for worms in an obscure grave. That is certainly not the future I want for myself.
I urge you, as the days of our existence as a nation wind to a close, to repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ. He offers true freedom, peace, forgiveness, meaning and purpose, eternal life in the new heaven and earth. I would love nothing more than to see this nation be rid of the philosophies and wicked actions that have caused us to be in the situation we find ourselves. We can be assured that God will save His people and that the Lord Jesus will soon arrive to take His people out of this wicked world (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) and initiate the promised judgments that will end the evils, perversions, and schemes of the devil and his followers once and for all (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:11-15). I have had enough of the current American philosophy as it stands now and am looking for the “Blessed Hope” of Christ’s return. Our redemption is drawing near. America, you have been warned. For the love of all that is noble, listen, repent, and turn to the cross of Christ today.
