THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU

God will Fight 4 U

THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU AND YOU NEED ONLY TO BE STILL                   Exodus 14:14

1 Samuel 19:15 (NIV)  Then Saul sent the men back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so that I may kill him.”

When trials come your way you can either sit down and surrender, or fight.  I am a fighter and will not stay down for long.  I always ask myself, “So how are you going to get to Heaven if you are stuck in a mud puddle of anger and grief?”

However, there are times when injustices against us or the ones we love occur.  Since humans were wired with the built-in emotions God gave us, it is normal to get angry and want to lash back.  Here is when trust, faith, and the fruits of the Spirit (namely self-control) should step in and save us from sinful mistakes we will later regret.  Revenge may feel good for a moment, but it only satisfies for a short while and then leaves us questioning whether we did the right thing.  It robs us of peace.

God will fight for us! He is the defender of the weak and a just Judge for all mankind.  Only He holds the complete facts and knows all of the circumstances.  The one who hurt you is going to be held accountable, but God is a merciful and gracious Creator.  He knows their story as well as He knows yours.

When our emotions are running hot and wild, it is hard to make a rational decision.  We will often act out of our emotions and seek revenge on the one who wounded us, be it with words or a physical and vengeful act.  You may feel justified in punishing a wrong-doer but in the long run you are handicapping God and His ability to pick just the correct discipline to hand out.

Patience is often a factor too.  We want Divine retribution immediately and when it doesn’t come we decide to take care of the matter ourselves.  Please think about all the times David was assaulted by Saul and how he relied on God to avenge and protect him.  In the end, Saul met his fate and David inherited the position God created him to take on, as a King and Ruler of His holy people.

You should also remember that David was not beyond the judgment of God.  David sinned against Uriah when he slept with his wife, Bathsheba.  His cover up was revealed, and finally acknowledged after the profit Nathan shared the story of a rich man who had cooked up the poor man’s pet lamb for dinner.  The Lord struck the child that was born from the adultery David committed against Uriah.

God knows how to hand out discipline that fits a crime.  He will avenge you and discipline your abusers.  All you need to do is be still and let Him do all of the fighting.  The discipline and judgment God picks may never be revealed to you, just rest in the assurance that it will be delivered in His time.

We should not be interfering with God’s decisions and His measurements of discipline.  We are not the judge, we are the people.  He is fair and yet full of love and mercy.  Remember to removed the plank from your own eye before handing out quick judgments.  It is with the same measurement you use to judge others that you will find God judging you in return.

MATTHEW 7:3-7 (NIV)   Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
