2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Fear is a trap that leads to prison. Emotionally, fear can strangle the hope and life out of a person. It will not hesitate to cripple, wound, and harass a believer. Fear loves to cast doubt and disturb peace. It destroys love and paralyzes the children of God. Fear is a bully. Fear is the devil in disguise.
1 John 4:18 tells us that there is no fear in love. God has a perfect love for us and is able to drive out all fear. Therefore, we must strive to attain that perfect love of God and remember that He is not looking to punish us. If anything, God loves us so much that He wants to instruct and discipline us with His mercy and grace…. Not punish.
If you are facing a struggle that intimidates or causes you fear, take comfort in Joshua 1:9. In this verse you are COMMANDED to be courageous. In addition, you are instructed to not be afraid or discouraged. There is also a promise in this scripture. The Lord says He will be with you wherever you go. That means that God will walk with you through sorrow, pain, change, and journeys into the desert or valley. He will also walk beside you as you climb to mountaintops. You need not fear because the most powerful being is right beside you.
There will be times in your walk when you are so passionate for Christ and effective in serving Him that the enemy will notice and balk. He will then most likely get angry and try to sabotage your ministry. This is when you need to remember that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.
Psalm 91:4-8 reminds us that He will shield you with His wings and that His faithful promises are your armor of protection. The promises of God are in the bible. His promises are a part of His living Word. The Word of God is the Sword with which you need to battle principalities and powers of darkness.
What are some of the PROMISES of God you should memorize and hold claim, especially at times when you are under spiritual attack?
Jeremiah 29:11 promises that He has plans to prosper you with a hope and a future. Matthew 11:28 promises to give rest to the weary. Isaiah 40:29 promises to give strength to the weary. In Philippians 4:19 assures believers that all needs are be supplied.
Fear lives in every heart but it does not have to rule it. When the cares of this world cause you fear or give you feelings of being overwhelmed, cast them up to your Savior. Allow Him to shelter you in the shadow of His wings and give you peace and rest.
Father God,
I ask that the chains of fear in this reader be broken by the power of Your blood. Bind the devil and place a hedge of protection around this one who is overwhelmed and afraid. May Your mercy be evident today and always. Amen.
Psalm 34:7 (NIV) “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.”
