We make the mistake of calling out to God only when we are in despair, instead of talking to Him EVERY DAY. We need His help and guidance all the time, not just when tragedy strikes. 
Building a RELIANCE on God is a big step in maturing your faith. It requires trust.  Relying on God means yoy are willing to depend on His provisions for all things and trust in His timing. Do you believe that He is in control, and that in His power He can handle all that concerns you? He will get you to where you need to go…. According to HIS will and plans.
