Being Born Again

Nicodemus, an influential Pharisee and a ruler of the Sanhedrin, asked Jesus this question, “How can a man be born when he is old?”  Jesus responded in John 3:7 by saying, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
Jesus didn’t say, “It perhaps might be nice in some unfortunate situation that, peradventure, you might just have a new birth.”  No. He said, “You must be born again.”  It is an absolute prime requisite.
Do you know what we have done? We have begun to talk about Christians in categories. We say, “Well, he’s a born-again Christian.” May I tell you very plainly that saying “born-again Christian” is redundant? That’s the only kind there is! It’s like saying “female woman” or “tooth dentist.”  Jesus said, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
