God will protect you, but He will not pamper you. Now Genesis 32:1 says, “Jacob went on his way and the angels of God met him. When Jacob saw them he said, ‘This is God’s host.’” God’s host means God’s army.
He just realizes that for twenty years out in the wilderness and various other places, he has had an angel escort. The angels of God had been encamping round about him to protect him. Remember, he is not totally right with God, but the angels are watching him and protecting him.
He was immature and out of fellowship with God, and yet God was protecting him. Thank God for the angels that encamp round about you, that protect you when you don’t deserve it.
