Expect there to be hypocrites in the Church. The devil is at work and every church has them. It is not our job as Christians to try to separate the wheat from the tares. We should never get into a crusade against someone else’s religion. That is not our business. Our business is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now surely we should warn people of false doctrine (see Matthew 24:11-28 and 1 John 4:1). The Bible tells us that, but we shouldn’t go around rooting out tares (see Matthew 13:25-30). You will make some horrible mistakes.
Don’t get discouraged because of hypocrites in the church. It doesn’t prove the Gospel is false, not at all. A counterfeit is the greatest compliment anything that is real could have. Why do people counterfeit $100 bills? Because evidently a $100 bill is worth something. They do not counterfeit gum wrappers. The counterfeit is a testimony to the validity of the real thing.
So what can you expect from the time that the Gospel began to the end of the age? Don’t expect everybody to accept the Gospel. They are not going to. That does not mean the Gospel has failed. Isaiah 55:11 promises, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
