Emerson said, “Courtesy is made up of little sacrifices.” If you are a husband, let me give an application for today. Men are to be the leader of the home. And one of the marks of leadership is gentleness. 2 Timothy 2:24 says: “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.”
The psalmist said of the Lord, “Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation: and Thy gentleness hath made me great.” (2 Samuel 22:36).
Are you a mother and want your children to be great? Be gentle. They will grow and blossom with a father and mother who are gentle. The Bible says of a wife: “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26). Your children need this kindness perhaps more than anything else.
Colossians 3:12 says, “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”
