The word “heart” in this verse doesn’t mean the muscle that pumps the blood. It is talking about the seat of our emotions, the inner person—what I call “master control.” Your heart speaks of total commitment.
When people fall in love, they’re called—what? Sweet-hearts, not sweet-heads. That’s because the heart is the core of the individual that dictates the character, directs the will, and dominates the affections. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
If you are going to be pure, my dear friend, you must be pure in heart before you can be pure any other way.
