To say I am directionally challenged would be a gross understatement. I practically need to use my GPS to get home from the grocery store. Obviously a bit of an exaggeration but I definitely have no internal compass. The invention of the GPS was a godsend for me. It used to be that most any place I went I had to spend loads of times getting directions from someone or trying to figure out a map. Then I had to write it all down because I knew there was no way I would ever remember what I had been told or seen.

For our earthly travels we have the help of a Global Positioning System. But God, in His Almighty wisdom, has given us a spiritual GPS for our “heavenly” travels. He knew that after Jesus ascended back into Heaven that we mortals would never find our way to Him without divine intervention so He gave us the Holy Spirit to be our spiritual GPS—God Positioning System.

Instead of wasting precious time floundering around through trial and error trying to decipher which path to take and the best route, and taking many disastrous detours along the way to our God ordained destination, we have the Holy Spirit to provide precise, complete, and accurate directives.

These following passages (all from the NIV translation) give us insight as to how that Holy Spirit infused GPS works. If you will tap into this supernatural guidance system without fail you will never need worry about losing your way.

Romans 8:26,27 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

Romans 8:14 “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”

Galatians 5:25 “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

John 16:13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth…”

Speaking of guidance and being led—when I moved to a new part of the city a few years ago I was having a problem finding the right streets that would get me to my area of town. Imagine that!!!—LOL. Anyway there is a cemetery in the same proximity that has a very large cross sitting atop one of their buildings that can be seen for miles away. I was discussing my conundrum with my son one day and his response: “Mom just look for the cross and you will always be able to find your way home.” Wow—how very true my dear Christian friend. The cross—another God positioning system.
