Make God’s Desires Your Own

Delight Yourself In Lord:Give Desires

A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.” Proverbs 13:19 (NKJV)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

A desire that is fulfilled is like candy to the soul, especially if your desire is shared with God and is aligned with His will. Why wouldn’t God grant you the desires of your heart, if they were His desires as well?  Don’t neglect asking the Father to reveal His will for your life.

There will be much pleasure in knowing that your passions in life are fulfilling each task He has created you to accomplish. Running the race to that glorious finish line will be so much easier if you are in His will.

So, if you find yourself on a rabbit trail or detour, it MIGHT be that you have, like a dog chasing a cat, taken off and pursued something not of His will.  This desire of yours may be a good thing, for someone else or in another season of your life.  But for now, please consider whether what you are chasing is His desire or a distraction leading you away from His purpose.

Psalm 37:4 encourages us to find our delight in the Lord.  There is a mighty harvest of sweet fruit waiting for us when we discover that our pleasure and delight is only found in Him. When we arrive at this spiritual stage of maturity, intimacy with God waters our desire. And know this: He planted these desires within us before our birth.

The wonder of obedience and faith is found in the transformation process.  We become new creations when we are born again through our spiritual rebirth. However, our transformation process takes a lifetime. We become more like Him every time we lay down our fleshly desires and offer them up as a sacrifice of praise.

Fools do not recognize the wisdom found in asking God to make His desires theirs own. Instead, they choose to ignore the Holy Spirit tugging on their heartstrings.  They follow after their own pleasures, which grant only temporary delight and not the everlasting joy He offers.

Consider now whether you are walking in the ways of the Lord, or of the world. Ask God about His plans and desires for your life.  Will you allow Him to send the Holy Spirit to work on your hopes and dreams?  A conversion of heart may follow. Permit your Father to reconstruct your spirit.  The renovation may take some time to finish, but the cathedral He creates will be magnificent.

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 (NKJV)

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 1 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
