God in Spirit cannot die. John 4:24 says, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” But the Bible is very clear that there must be atonement for sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death ….” Ezekiel 18:4: “… the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” And Hebrews 9:22 says, “… without shedding of blood is no remission” for our sins.
Jesus had to take on flesh and blood so that He could become a sacrifice upon the cross. And in so doing, He brought Satan’s kingdom crashing down. I got a letter a while back that makes this very clear:
“Dear Dr. Rogers, I’ve been a kindergarten teacher for 21 years, and just when I think I’ve heard it all, something else will pop out of their little mouths. I thought you would appreciate this. Last year we were making Santa Clauses when one of my students asked me whose birthday it was. I told him, ‘Jesus.’ Another child said, ‘I thought He got stabbed on the cross.’ Someone else spoke up and said, ‘It’s okay, because He busted out of the rocks!’”
Boy, I like that. This teacher said, “I didn’t say anything else. Everyone seemed to be satisfied with the last answer.”
