Perfection: The Unattainable Goal

If you get the idea that God is going to accept you on the basis of your performance, then you will never know when and if you have done enough. Stop and think about that, before you continue reading.
You see, you will never know if you’ve prayed enough, read your Bible enough, tithed enough, attended church enough, been on enough mission trips. More important than that, you will never ever truly feel accepted.
Perfectionism is a thief. It promises rewards, but it steals joy and satisfaction. Why? Because perfection is an unattainable goal.
If you are a perfectionist, you have set an impossible goal for yourself and therefore you will be constantly faced with frustration and failure.
Ephesians 1:6 says, “To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved.” How does God make you accepted? By His grace. Not by your attainment, works, or striving. Grace is completely contrary to human nature. Human nature wants to live by guilt and not by grace.
