The Belt Of Truth

Satan is the father of all lies and a master illusionist. An illusionist is someone who deceives others by giving a false or misleading impression of reality. Therefore, the devil works tirelessly to convince us God does not mean exactly what He says. Thankfully, Satan’s suggestions can never stand up against the light of God’s Word.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NKJV)
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.John 8:44 (NIV)
When we tell a lie, there is an urge to cover it up in darkness. But more often than not, falsehoods have a way of surfacing. And when lies are exposed, it is never easy to own them or confess to deceit. Thankfully, forgiveness is a gift that keeps on giving, when Jesus stands in the gap between God’s mercy seat and us.
Satan works in darkness. He cunningly knits together schemes that twist together lies and partial truths. He intends to confuse and confound his prey, and we are his targets. But we know God is not a God of confusion. No, God is unable to lie and speaks only words of truth.
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.1 Corinthians 14:33 (NKJV)
God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?”  Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
In the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.” Titus 1:2 (NIV)
Because the devil is a roaring lion constantly looking for his next meal, we should be in the habit of daily putting on our spiritual armor.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
When addressing our spiritual attire, Paul made a point of listing the belt of truth first. It was the first thing the Roman soldiers of his time donned, and we should follow their example. A soldier’s belt supported his core, enabling all his limbs and movements to work in harmony. A strong core helps with balance, stability, stamina, and provides a resistance to injury. A well-supported core seems to be what Paul had in mind when he crafted his list of spiritual armor, and truth has to be our core support. Truth separates fact from fiction and brings lies into the light.
The book Ephesians makes a point of emphasizing that believers are in a constant spiritual battle with invisible powers of darkness. Yes, while on earth we battle an enemy we cannot see, but there is no need to fret. Believers are not given immunity from enemy assaults, but we do have access to the power of God. This includes His power to defend us.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:12-13 (NKJV)
Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; According to the greatness of Your power preserve those who are appointed to die.” Psalm 79:11 (NKJV)
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV)
When we are in the middle of a spiritual battle, it is helpful to remember God is all- powerful, Omnipotent. The devil is not all powerful.
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!Revelation 19:6 (NKJV)
We can also take heart in knowing every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places belongs to believers.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in ChristEphesians 1:3 (NKJV)
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.” Ephesians 1:19 (NKJV)
With the belt of truth cinched around our waist, we can detect enemy lies and cast them out. With the provisions of God, we have everything we need to tear down every snare and trap he sets. With the belt of truth, we have the stamina to withstand even the most taxing battles. We are told to fight the good fight. Unless we have the belt of truth buckled around our waist, we will not have the success God promises.
A person with a weak core has poor posture and is more likely to buckle under pressure. A weak backbone leaves the body more susceptible to injury. Finally, a lack of stamina is often due to a weak core. When God’s truth is the core of our existence, strength flows into every other area of our life. Put your confidence in God and in His truthful promises. Strengthen your core and gird your loins with the belt of truth!
Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.” Ephesians 6:14 (NASB)
For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.Proverbs 3:26 (NKJV)

  1. We should always be saturated in the Word.

Luke 21:36 "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."
