In John chapter 3, we learn about a high official and very religious man named Nicodemus. He was so impressed with the miracles Jesus had done that he wanted to learn more.
In John 3:2 we pick up the story where Nicodemus asked Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that Thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that Thou doest, except God be with him.”
And Jesus answered him, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” It’s as if Jesus told Nicodemus, “If you want to understand miracles, you’re going to have to become a miracle.”
Now, Nicodemus was an intelligent man—a ruler of the Jews and a member of the Sanhedrin. He had attained much, and yet with all of his learning Jesus said to him, “Except you are born again, you can’t see the kingdom of God.” His status and education couldn’t earn him a miracle or help him perform a miracle.
In the same way, God is telling you today that you will never understand spiritual things until the Holy Spirit of God turns the light on in your soul.
