This idea that a child has to have a Ph.D. in sin before he can get saved is ridiculous. And yet, it goes without saying that every person, whether child or adult, must have the understanding of their conviction of sin before they can be saved.
And one way we can help children understand their need of a Savior is to train them in the way that they should go (see Proverbs 22:6). We should commence with childhood and begin to teach children the things of God and lead them to the Lord Jesus Christ.
One final comment: we are not to manipulate children. For that matter, Christians are not to manipulate anybody. We do not shove people or block people. Instead, we are to guide people—take them by the hand and show them what Jesus did on their behalf. It ought to be perfectly normal and natural that children would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord if they are raised in a Christian home.
