Seasoned Like Salt

Salt seasons—salt causes flavor to come alive. In the book of Job we read this question, “Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt?” Is there any taste in the white of an egg? The answer is obviously no. What does salt do? Salt seasons. A little boy said, “Salt is that which tastes bad when you don’t have it.” He’s right.
Most of the people in America live bland lives. There is no excitement; there is no thrill. Their lives are tasteless and flavorless. It is the bland leading the bland.
But we who are Christians are to be different. There ought to be something about every Christian that’s absolutely exciting. We are to give to life a flavor, a tang, and a zest. That’s the reason the Bible says, “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Colossians 4:6).
Do you know why I think we have so many boring sermons? Because preachers are boring. Why do we have so many boring Sunday School lessons? Because the teacher is boring. Let your speech be seasoned with salt.
