Now, the “tryings of your faith” James is talking about are those irritations, those imponderables, those inconveniences, trials, tears, and tribulations that come into our lives.
“Knowing this: that the trying of your faith worketh patience; but let patience have her perfect work that you may be perfect.”
Do you know what the word “perfect” means? It means mature. What does God want in your life? God wants you to be a full-grown Christian. He wants you to be mature. You see, the Bible says God wants to bring you to the fullness of Christ. And the way God does that is to allow you to have trials and tribulations in order that you might be mature.
Are children patient? Of course not. Anybody who has children knows that children don’t know the difference between “no” and “not yet.” If you say, “Wait a while,” to them, that is “no.” They want it now! You see, we’re like little children. Tribulation works to bring forth in our lives the character trait of patience, and patience makes us mature.
