To guard against predators, a shepherd will sleep at the door, or gate, of the sheepfold. His sheep mean everything to him. They are his livelihood. Even when he sleeps, it will be with one eye open so he can be awakened at even the slightest hint of danger.
Nails didn’t hold Jesus to the cross. Silver cords of love and golden bonds of redemption held Jesus Christ to that cross. A shepherd may kill one of his sheep because he is hungry and wants food, but who ever heard of a shepherd dying for a sheep? And yet Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd that lays down His life for the sheep.”

Funny how God brings things into your life when He wants to make a point. I’m not sure of His point yet, but yours is the third time God has brought the subject of Jesus being the Good Shepherd before my eyes in two days. Okay – so I’m listening! 🙂 Long ago I read a book by Phillip Keller, “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23.” I’ve thought of it all three times. I think I’ll read it again. Along with Psalm 23 and probably the full passage in John 10.
Hi Kathy, that is so cool! Thanks for sharing that with us. Yes God does tend to get our attention at various times and for out own good.
Check out Psalm 31:5 KJV – I think you will like it!
As a new Christian, I learned that our spirit consists of our minds, will, and emotions. As Jesus cried from the cross, so must we cry daily, “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth!”
Amen
