Chariot or Juggernaut?

Recently, America has seen an increase in violence and chaos. It appears the devil is attacking on many fronts. He knows his time is short and I believe he’s trying to paralyze mankind with fear. We have had to endure the Coronavirus, economic turmoil, social distancing, and now riots and looting. Fear in the hearts of men will not help to heal our land. Fear is a roadblock to faith.

In 2 Kings 6, we find the king of Syria sending a great army to surround the city of Israel. The army was great with many men, horses, and chariots. The servant of Elisha was greatly disturbed when he saw them and asked his master what they were to do.

“So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

We are fighting a spiritual battle. We need to be on our knees praying for our country. Just as Elisha recognized the fear in his servant and encouraged him to it set aside, God is saying the same to you and I. Elisha also asked God to open the eyes of his servant so that he could see the glorious angel armies surrounding Israel.

Too often we look at challenging situations with earthly eyes and ignore the spiritual realm. This is such a mistake! Jesus warned us that we do not fight against flesh and blood. Instead, we fight against unseen spiritual enemies. Fighting an invisible army seems like the devil has an unfair advantage but let me remind you of two things.

1) God has given us spiritual armor to protect us and the spiritual sword (Word of God) allows us to advance against this army. Ephesians 6:10-18
2) Matthew 28:18 says “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

D.L. Moody wrote that…
When our eyes are opened, we shall see in all the events of life, whether great or small, whether joyful or sad, a “chariot” for our souls. Everything that comes to us becomes a chariot the moment we treat it as such; on the other hand, even the smallest trial may be a juggernaut to crush us into misery or despair if we so consider it. It lies with each of us to choose which they shall be.

God did not create man to cower and hide in times of trouble. He’s provided us with everything necessary to live during these turbulent times. He birthed us into this century with a purpose and has given us special gifts to accomplish His will. With faith, we can jump into the spiritual chariots of fire and victoriously battle the forces of darkness. But, if we choose to quake in our boots, a juggernaut will crush us into misery and despair. Don’t let circumstances overwhelm or deceive you. Our God is ALL POWERFUL. He is in charge and what we deem hopeless and impossible are actually glorious possibilities of redemption and salvation for the lost.

Juggernaut-A massive inexorable force, campaign, movement, or object that crushes whatever is in its path
