God did not need us. He is perfect and complete. However, God wants us. Unlike the angels, God created man in His image and calls us His children. It is His will to establish a personal relationship with us.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)
Just as He fellowshipped with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3) He also longs to walk with us. When God walks with people it suggests a closeness, intimacy, and time of fellowship. We were created with a need for companionship. Humans have an inner need to be connected with others because we are social beings and require relationships.
“I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.” Leviticus 26:12 (NKJV)
“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord.” Zechariah 2:10 (NKJV)
“That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” John 17:21 (NKJV)
Walking side-by-side with a friend facilitates conversation and fellowship. We listen and we speak while enjoying the beauty in our midst. To walk with God means that you and God are in agreement about your life. The more we resemble Him by aligning our will to His will, the closer we become to Him.
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3)
Through prayer, we connect with God as we speak to Him about our thoughts and desires. We listen to God when we read the Bible, which is His LIVING WORD. Scripture is alive and active and always has something to say to us. God continually wants to speak to us, and we need to hear Him in order to connect with Him. Relationships grow with time spent interacting. Relationships become stale and weak if we don’t make the time to interact. One-sided conversations are not ideal so be sure to quiet yourself and listen for God’s instruction and encouragement.
“If you take a fish out of the water it will die; and when you remove a tree from soil, it will also die. Likewise, when man is disconnected from God, he dies. GOD is our natural environment. We were created to live in His presence. We have to be connected to Him because it is only in Him that life exists. Water without fish is still water but fish without water is nothing. Soil without trees is still soil but trees without soil is nothing. GOD without man is still GOD but man without GOD is nothing.” ~Unknown
Heavenly Father,
We ask that You increase our desire to know You more. We want to know You on a deeper and more intimate level. Just as Enoch walked with You as a friend, we too want to walk with You and enjoy Your companionship. Forgive us for neglecting our time with You and for not taking time to listen or obey Your voice. We want to abide in You every hour of the day. God be praised for His limitless patience and unconditional love. Thanks be to God for His desire to fellowship with mankind.
