It’s not that we will never sin again, rather sin no longer has a strangle-hold over us
By Greg Holt
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
(ICB) This is a beautiful image of what happens when we choose Christ, when we choose to believe in God.
Picture water baptism, full immersion. When we sink into the water, our “old man” dies. Our old self, our sinful nature is crucified with Christ. Unlike Christ who was resurrected, our old sinful nature is not resurrected, this sin nature if you will is dead and gone.
When we rise up out of the water, we are reborn a new creation in Christ. Our “old man” is gone, buried in death. We are reborn, a “new man.”
It’s not that we will never sin again, rather sin no longer has a strangle-hold over us. We are free to choose not to sin, we can effectively resist sin through the power of Jesus which has been given to us as reborn people that now belong to Him.
We are truly a new creation, we no longer serve evil, our father is not the evil one himself (John 8:44), we have been adopted by God, given new life and purpose, he is our Father now in all meanings of the word.
Christ through His death and resurrection once and for all defeated Satan and his most powerful tool, death (John 12:31). We will all die of course, but we who choose Jesus will not suffer the second death; the second death is permanent separation from God, eternity in Hell with the devil and his angels (demons).
We are not subject to the Great White Throne Judgement – rather we are seen as righteous – possessing the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid for our sins by His own sacrificial death.
Baptism is a symbol of the new life we receive through the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9) when we come to Christ and repent of our sins and seek to live a new life.
You too can be born again and renounce the power of sin in your life. Just come to Christ and ask Him into your life.
