Thought for Today 06/09/2021: The Children of God

When we come to Christ, we become the adopted children of God

By Greg Holt

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”  Acts 17:28

(ICB)  For in Him we live – we actually have our life in God, we are born spiritually dead, so when we come to Christ, we are renewed, our spirit comes alive in Jesus (Colossians 3:3).  We are baptized into the death of Christ (Romans 6:3), sharing in His rebirth (resurrection) as awakened and spiritually alive creatures.

Without God, we are mere humans, spiritually dead and slaves to sin knowing not the Lord who saves us.

When we give ourselves to God, we receive far more than we give.  We actually give very little and receive a king’s ransom in return.

Basically we agree to give up our sinful lifestyle, to live as He would like us too.  We agree to do the things God wants us to do, the things that are good for us.  We worship Him, thank Him, pray to Him; we have a relationship with God, He is our Father.

As the verse says, we are His offspring.  When we come to Christ, we become the adopted children of God.  What a thought!  We are an actual part of God’s family with all the rights and privileges thereof.

God created us, then He took action to save us from our own sins, our wrongdoing.  Then He effectively said, “you are mine.”  Henceforth we are His children.  God sees the righteousness of Christ in us (2 Corinthians 5:21), He (Jesus) intercedes for us (Romans 8:34) and we are given Holy Spirit (the Comforter – John 14:26) who indwells us giving us guidance, strength, peace, and conviction among other things.

A good family is a great thing to have, being a part of God’s family is the best thing to have.
