It is up to you ultimately to question, check what is said against the Bible, and to be sure you understand it

“14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:14-15
(ICB) There has been over time an increase in false doctrine, false teachings – ideas that are downright problematic and wrong. This is no accident.
Many in the Church teach what they ought not to, even as in Paul’s day as one can surmise by this verse and many others. There is after all nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
The problem with this today is that false teachers seem to abound, everywhere you look, someone is teaching things that do not line up with Scripture. Worse yet is the fact that so many in today’s Church are swept away by these so-called teachings – believing and taking in these false interpretations of the Word as truth.
Name it and claim it, false healing, the prosperity gospel, practicing LGBTQ people as pastors and other Church officials, ignoring and refusing to address abortion, false teaching, fake prophecies, misuse of Church funds etc. None of these should be tolerated or condoned.
Then there are those who while thinking they are working for God are truly working for their own glory, not God’s. The verse below speaks of them among others. This is something to be very careful of, I have to admit that I have in the past done this, it’s not at all hard to do.
“21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
It deeply bothers me how many people are deceived by those who are not truly serving God. It’s not that I need a large following or any such thing, it’s more like I want people to wake up, to see the truth, to see what and whom really matter – Jesus and the Word.
What is really important is that what I or anyone else says points people to God, to Jesus. It is what they say that truly matters, not me or what I say.
Don’t follow a particular church, and don’t follow a particular teacher, follow God, and then listen with discernment to those that teach His Word.
It is YOUR job to verify what you are taught/hearing against what the Bible says. Pastors and others who teach about God’s Word are here to guide you, to teach, maybe even to mentor you. But it is up to you ultimately to question, check what is said against the Bible, and to be sure you understand it. No one should be listening to the pastor and taking what is said as gospel – then you may as well be a blank recording medium with no choice on what is recorded therein.
“12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12
