Is Abortion a “Healthcare choice,” or the Murder of an Innocent Human Being?

By Greg Holt

Is abortion a non-Christian issue, or does it have everything to do with faith?

I have to admit right up front, I am very much so against abortion.  There is not only my faith in Jesus that turns me against this practice, there is also an event from my past, actually two.

When I young, yes, I was young at one time – my wife at the time was pregnant with our second daughter.  At just past being six months pregnant, our daughter died.  I knew before we even went to the doctor, no idea how, I just knew.  I was utterly devastated.  Healing from Elizabeth’s death was a very long time in coming – 40 plus years later, it still hurts.

Then, someone close to me, in cooperation with the girl’s mother, forced her to get an abortion.  That really hurt, and deeply angered me.

Bottom line?  Life is precious, and murdering a baby in the womb is just that – the murder of a human being.

This was all brought back to me when I came across this comment online dealing with abortion:

“Why? Because you lie? I have already proved that you are nothing but irrational fake christian [sic] liars. If you want tocontrol [sic] others move your sick asses to a dictatorship like N Korea, or Iran. You are closer to being Islamic so I suggest Iran.
**Note, Life News is being referenced here**

“Once again, in Genesis 2:7 God declared that Adam (man) became a ‘living being (soul in some translations)’ when he/we took out [sic] 1st breath, the breath of life.

“YOU liars ignore and reject God’s Word, and continue to tell YOUR LIES, so stop pretending that you are Christians. Christians do not reject God’s Word.

“Note also that this means that abortion is not a Christian, or Biblical issue, it is nothing but your personal and insane grievance. You have no right to force your perverse immoral trash on to others.” – I will not quote the source.

Keep in mind, the above comment was made by a “Christian”.  This has nothing to do with control, and everything to do with honoring what God’s Word tells us.  Everyone is free to make their own choices, but that in no way means that all of those choices are moral, or in line with God’s Word.

I find it very ironic that many who call themselves “Christians” insist that baby murder is an acceptable choice, it’s only a healthcare choice after all right?

The Scriptures suggest otherwise:

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7

Babies don’t “breathe” in the womb, but they do require oxygen, just like the rest of us to live, only their supply of this must have substance is via the umbilical cord, which connects to the placenta, which is connected to the uterus – and derives what is needed for baby from mom.

Psalm 139:13-16

13 For thou hast possessed my reins:
thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works;
and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and in thy book all my members were written,
which in continuance were fashioned,
when as yet there was none of them
.”

These verses make a very strong argument for God not only creating the original man (He did), but having a hand in creating all people (Babies) that have been born, or aborted etc. (Jeremiah 1:5).  I explain this in detail in the article linked above.

Apparently, according to the comment author above, if you do not support abortion rights, and in fact speak against this abhorrent practice, you are a liar, and guilty of spreading – “perverse immoral trash on to others”.  Wow, seriously???  But you would be surprised how many “Christians” avidly support the “right” to kill your unborn child, seeing nothing wrong with this whatsoever at all!

The following verse strongly implies that babies are more than just a “thing,” or a “group of cells,” in mom’s womb:

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalm 127:3

“Likewise, the pursuit of bearing and rearing children is only fulfilled if God blesses. Children are not ultimately the product of human effort, but ‘children are a heritage (or gift) from the Lord.’ “The fruit of the womb is a reward granted by God (Psalm 127:3b). Solomon compares the children of one’s youth to arrows in the hands of a warrior (Psalm 127:4). The warrior sends arrows skillfully toward their target in hopes that they will hit their mark. Solomon’s expectation is that those arrows will hit their target, as the man who has many arrows is blessed (Psalm 127:5). Those who have children will always have someone to stand with them (Psalm 127:5b).” (Source)

Let’s go back to the comment author’s words on “breathing”:

“Once again, in Genesis 2:7 God declared that Adam (man) became a ‘living being (soul in some translations)’ when he/we took out [sic] 1st breath, the breath of life.”

This is not only misleading, it is altogether incorrect.  Look at the wording, there can be no misunderstanding the intent behind the comment author’s words here: “when he/we took out [sic] 1st breath, the breath of life,” in other words, babies are not alive until they take that first breath outside the mother’s womb!!!  Look at this logically, if not with the eyes of the Spirit.  Man became a living being, a sentient creature, after God, “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.”  Agreed, now – babies do not ever have God before them, upon exiting mom’s womb, to grant them the breath of life!  You will not find that “theory” anywhere in the Bible.  Babies breathe, period – this is not the same as God granting life to Adam’s inert body via His own breath.

Babies are already alive, from the moment of conception!

Think about this for a moment: God created man (Adam), and then proceeded to create woman Eve).  God inserted within His creation (Man and woman), the ability to conceive other human beings through their sexual union.  This allows for creation of the human body, an inert piece of unfinished flesh, just like Adam was, until God gave him the breath of life.  With me so far?

Humans are however more than just a piece of meat, bones, and skin.  We are animated, alive, with a personality etc., note that we are capable of keeping a human body alive, when the actual person is no longer there (Brain death etc.).  So, there has to be something more, and there is.  We have a spirit, this is what makes us “alive,” it is also the part of us that is eternal.

Ruach and pneuma, Hebrew and Greek respectively, translate to the English word spirit, and are often used to refer to the Spirit of God, and to the human spirit.  This was what happened when God breathed life into Adam – his body was awakened if you will, God infused Adam with a spirit, and Adam began to live.  In the same way, God breathes life into every baby, your spirit is not a result of the creation of your human body, it is the gift of life from God!

God created humans, and humans were endowed by God to be able to “create” more humans, but this refers to the human body only!  No human could ever “create” an immortal spirit for themselves – this is the work of God, and Him only.

This in no way affirms the false belief of thepre-existence of souls,” that is utter nonsense.  When baby is conceived in the mother’s womb, then God imbues this new life with a soul, a spirit, and baby becomes a living human being!

Therefore, to state that abortion is:abortion is not a Christian, or Biblical issue,” is essentially a lie.  Abortion is the cold-blooded murder of another human being, created by God, just as Adam was, using a slightly different process – remember, it was God who designed, and makes possible this “process”.

Killing an animal for food is acceptable in God’s eyes.  Killing a human being (Abortion) because you don’t want the child for whatever reason – is not.
