Ezekiel 28:11-19 (NAS): Again the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God…you were the anointed cherub who covers, and I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God…you were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you. By the abundance of your trade you were internally filled with violence, and you sinned; therefore I have cast you as profane from the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I put you before kings, that they may see you. By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought fire from the midst of you; it has consumed you, and I have turned you to ashes on the Earth in the eyes of all who see you…’
It is important to know what God did in the beginning. Lucifer, the hovering angel and greatest among the angels ruled the Earth in God’s stead. Notice in Ezekiel 28 above that Lucifer was “in Eden, the Garden of God,” and “on the high mountain of God.” This is all prior to Adam and Eve. Lucifer was ruling on the Earth as an ambassador for The King of Heaven and Earth. We all know that he did a poor job once pride and wickedness were found in him.
In Lucifer’s wickedness wanting to overthrow God, he was cast to the ground and, in so doing, he and the fallen angels laid waste to the Earth. There’s no telling how many countless years went by before God created Adam and Eve. When God, in Genesis 1:2, looked upon the face of the Earth and found it void, formless, and covered in darkness, He reestablished order on the ravaged Earth. On the sixth day, God created Adam and Eve. God placed them in the same Garden of Eden where Lucifer had once ruled.
Genesis 1:26-27 (NAS): Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the Earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the Earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
We see in Genesis 1:26-27 that man was created in Their (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) image, unlike Lucifer. God allowed them the privilege of ruling the Earth where Satan had failed. Since Lucifer was cast “to the ground,” he was still in the Garden of Eden, just not ruling and not of the mountain top. Because man was created in the image of God and Lucifer was not, and because man was Lucifer’s replacement, he desperately hated man and would, as we well know, do anything to destroy man. God loved mankind therefore Satan hated mankind. Because of Satan’s hatred of mankind and most earnest desire to once again rule on the high mountain, he had to destroy mankind.
We know that he tempted Adam and Eve in the Garden and said, “If you eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you will be like God.” The problem was that they had no knowledge therefore must not have realized they were already created to be like God. Eve disobeyed God in order to receive what she already had and therefore lost everything.
How often do we do the same? We seek and strive after what God has already given due to greed and lust. We have His Son, the fullness of the Spirit of God, His Kingdom and all that accompanies His Kingdom. What more could we possibly want or need? This earthly life holds nothing of value; nothing eternal. Let us not be so foolish as Lucifer or as Adam and Eve longing for that which we’ve already been freely given. It’s time to understand that we have already been given everything and walk in the fullness thereof!

Categories: THE WORD OF GOD FOR TODAY
Thanks for the insights, it’s true that we need to be wise as we trudge our course on this mortal shore. We need to keep eyes wide open, plunge ourselves into the sea of constant prayer so that we may find grace and strength to attain a room in the kingdom of God.
